Pond Kraken Pt. two

After further research we have discovered more about the abilities of the pond kraken. The pond kraken can make every part of its body except the turtles on the tips of its tentacles invisible. In the case of the pond kraken doing this it can only be seen by looking through a stone that has had a hole put through it by natural causes. This natural phenomenon is called a seeing stone. The krakens eyes have the odd ability to see chitinous material, which makes up our nails as a glowing structure helping it identify toes. When it is ready to eat it turns itself upside down so its tentacles are pointing up and it moves them around to search for toes. To dig this hole it uses the tongue on the top of its head. It scoops up dirt in its tongue pulls it inside of itself and ejects it through a vent in the side of it head that is also used for respiration.

The turtles on the end of its tentacles do a very amazing thing. After eating 3-6 toes it snaps off and becomes an entirely separate life form. A new turtle then starts growing as a bud and renders the tentacle useless until it matures. This is all the information we have at present.

Monday at the JR. Rangers

Monday Report
Nicholas M.

This Monday at junior rangers I had a lot of fun. One of the highlights of the day was kayaking. After pushing my boat into the water I paddled along the pond sometimes stopping to look around at the birds and tall plants. Later we were given the job of setting up a trap to catch fish. We rowed out to an old birdhouse that was built in the 80’s for a sick bird and tried to place it but the rope was extremely tangled. It took us a while to untangle it but when we did we put the trap down and rowed back. When people came for the walk Raymond got to wear the bug hat. We first showed them all the basic plants like choke cherries and Saint Johns wart.
After showing all the plants we walked down the road to the forest path. After Lenny told us whoever found the first blueberry got the special Italian ice we were both off in a flash on a quest to find the first blue blueberry. When we got to the bush I looked around and quickly grabbed a small but ripe blueberry. I had to abandon my shoes along the way but I made it to Lenny just in time. Sadly he did not really have any Italian ice. So we brought everyone down the trail picking berries while we walked along. We did not find enough for Lenny’s breakfast so I ate them instead. When we were done we went back out to check the trap. We didn’t catch a single fish, so we went back to shore and put the kayaks away. We are hoping to do better next time.
My favorite part of the day was definitely the kayaking. What I like about kayaking is the feeling of the water pushing you. The breeze is chilly and moist which is perfect on a hot day. Then there is the feeling of rushing along through the water. I like how
I can speed through easily even though it seems like it would be difficult. The blueberries today were very sour and had a tang to them. Even though they were small they packed a lot of punch. I cannot wait until they get riper and I can go and eat them and maybe help my mom make some muffins. This is all of what I did on Monday.

Rose Mallow

Our intrepid Jr Rangers, Nicholas and Raymond set off this morning to look for ripe Blackberries, didn't find any... yet.  Found this Rose Mallow and some other cool plants.  .

Osprey

When Osprey are born its survival of the fittest because when offspring of Osprey are born the biggest usually gets the food. Once the babies leave about a year later they mate.  Osprey eat a diet of fish like small striped bass and blue fish.

Kayak

Yesterday we went kayaking in the pond where we set a minnow trap for golden minnows which were introduced in to the pond by the past owners because he liked to fish very much and the golden minnows are good bait for all different kinds of fish but not pumpkin seed or bluegill they like small bait like worms.  When we were kayaking we saw black crowned night heron and kingfisher, red winged blackbird, finches and sparrows. We may have almost tipped into the pond but it was a good kayak.

My Master - Courtesy of Le Gigi

My Master

My Master! I jump, I bolt, I dash!

I’m ecstatic, chaotic and frenzied!

I dart in-between the legs of his peoples!

My Master! I crash, I smash, I roll!

Everyday new scents come and go

But there’s one scent that always stays the same…

My Master’s! I collide, I create collisions, I excite!

Everyone, from the smallest pup to the oldest fossil pets me

But I won’t sit for it.

I want

MY MASTER! Ooof. I didn’t see him there.

He moves so quietly I bump him a lot.

His mate and littermates call him Lenny,

But I call him

My Master!

My Master walks away and slowly calls my human name and waves a flying enemy.

SWEGEN! I obediently obey, but an unseen enemy wraps around my neck!

Now I can’t save him from the flying enemy.

The unseen enemy yanks me up the up-path.

My Master struggles with one end of the unseen enemy

as I struggle with the other end.

If we work together we can defeat the unseen enemy together!

DARN IT, SWEGEN!

My Master is mad. I don’t know why!

I think he wants to be the Alpha Male and defeat the unseen enemy by himself.

But he is not strong enough.

The unseen enemy yanks me into My Master’s kennel and My Master has to leave me.

He will be back later to defeat the unseen enemy and then we can defeat the flying enemy together.

Slowly all of the new coming and going scents leave and I await the creek of the kennel door that means

My Master! He has come to save me! Now we go out into the field and terrorize all of the enemies.

I’m glad My Master is mine. He needs a strong Beta Male to help him because he is a weak Alpha Male.

Last week

This was the group that took the walk with us on Thursday.  I think we might have met some future Jr Rangers.

We left GiGi alone in the lab for a few minutes and this happened.

I asked Nicholas what occurred, he said he wasn't sure.

Gigi hard at work on a new blog entry, probably about her love of puppies.
